About me

My name is Nicolas Lessard, and I am a double bass and electric bass player based in Montreal.

I devote most of my time to small ensembles, covering contemporary music (ECM+, SMCQ) cross-over and arabic music (Oktoecho) but most intensely baroque music (Arion, Caprice, les Idees Heureuses, les Boreades, and others)

I am involved on electric bass in a kids show called Gros Paul, with music by Michel Gonneville and presesented by le Moulin a musique

I also am a member of Trois-Rivieres Symphony Orchestra since 1997.

I played the violin for ten years from age 7, not very seriously but with a lot of fun before deciding to study double bass. I switched to fifhs tuning in 2000.
(see article)

My teachers were Jean-Francois Martel, Zbigniew Borowicz, Marc Denis and Joel Quarrington. I must sat I fell I did learn a lot from both Tafelmusik’s artistic director Jeanne Lamon and bassist Allison Mackaye, who were very encouraging and inspirational.
